Feldmen's process for Appraising an Artwork.

Lin Onus

Describe:

In this particular piece of art work the foreground there shows that there is fish swimming in a lake and the water is all rough, so it makes the effect of the fish swimming roughly through the river. The middle ground there is flat water and this is different to the foreground which therefore makes it look like two different pieces of art work combined into one. In the background you can see that there are dark misty, mystical clouds floating in the breezy night sky, the trees make this piece of art work look kind of mysterious and scary which means that this artist is very good at what he does and she can portray the works of art. The objects that are in this painting are trees, dark/light clouds, flat water lake, rough water lake and fish. This picture looks like it is a still night with no breeze, it looks cold, scary, the trees do not look like they are moving because there is no wind and they look dead because they do not have many leaves, the fish look like they are in a hurry to get away from somewhere or to get somewhere quickly and the way the artist has made the texture in the foreground it looks like the fish are moving and the water is roughly moving while the middle ground the water is flat and still.

Analyse:

The type of mood/atmosphere that the artist has created in this piece is a mystical, scary, cold winter’s night. The reason being why I think that is because the colours that he has chosen to use are lots of different shades of blue which therefore means she has used cool colours to make it look like a mystical, scary, cold winter’s night. She has used a lot of texture and tone to make this painting look real e.g. come alive, as if the fish where swimming and clouds were moving. There is so much detail that has gone into this particular art work because if they had not put detail into like for example just paint a picture it would not look real and it make the painting look plain and boring and not interesting. The focal point of this painting is in the middle ground and it is the reflection of the moon shinning through the clouds and its reflection is in the water that is very flat and still, this is because this is a dark picture and this is the lightest/brightest object in the picture.

Interpret:

The artist has tried to put the meaning of a mysterious, mystical, cold winter’s night. The reason being it looks like it and the texture has made it look like that there is no breeze just a still silent night with the fish flapping around in the lake. The artist is trying to put forward that there was one night she saw where it was cold, mysterious and a calm lake with no one around. This might have been a past experience from Lin or could have heard it from a friend or a picture that had been taken and she has painted from that.

Art Excersion 24th of feb, GOMA Art Gallery!

Yesterday me and the rest of the grade 10 art students went to the GOMA Art Gallery in Brisbane. It was a great experience and i saw lots of great art work,

My favourite piece was the 9 guitars by Rudi Mantofani(as shown above). I really like this piece because guitar is one of my favourtie instruments to play, this also made me start to think what a great artist Rudi Mantofani really is.

What i could have done better!

I could have spent more time on my etching and made it look more neater. Some of my etching prints don't have enough ink on them and on my other prints i have too much ink. What i could have done to make it have more ink and make it have less ink is put the ink on the areas that need it and then take off ink where areas need it. so therefore i have learnt my lesson, my lesson was to put not so much ink on and then look at the areas that need more ink and look at the other areas that have too much ink.
